What is your role at summer boarding courses?
College Tutor – Business.
What’s the average day like at summer school?
A typical day is busy but enjoyable! Normally I would have breakfast with the tutors and college mentors around 8am. After breakfast, there is a quick tutor meeting and then lessons begin. There are two lessons in the morning, each for one and a half hours. The lessons feel rewarding because you get quite a lot of freedom to plan your own syllabus and content, additionally the students have all chosen the subject and the school because they have a genuine interest in the subject. The lunch break is around an hour, and the lunch was always delicious! After lunch, it’s two more lessons and teaching finishes around 16:30. Typically, I’d then prep for an hour or so to ensure I was well prepared for the next day. In the evenings, I’d normally either play tennis or relax with other team members before starting again the next day.
What have you enjoyed the most about working with Summer Boarding Courses?
I have lots of really positive experiences of working at SBC so it’s hard to pick just one. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere of the school and the way all the team worked together was extremely positive. I felt able to develop a lot as a teacher, with lots of great support from the team.
What advice would you give a staff member going into their first summer with Summer Boarding courses?

What’s your favourite summer school memory?
So many to choose from! I enjoyed the games of table tennis, chess and assassin with other team members.
Another great memory was students at the end of the course saying they had really enjoyed the school as well as the lessons and found them useful, it was great to see they appreciated the work.
