Sam has served as Director since 2015, having been with SBC since its beginning in 2008. During his tenure as Director, SBC achieved 15 out of 15 points of strength from the British Council – the first multi-centre summer school to gain this recognition. Before becoming Director, Sam personally ran 3 of our schools over 5 different summers. He sits on the Dukes Education Executive Committee and continues to be tremendously inspired by developing SBC’s students.
Prior to joining SBC, Sam spent 3 years in child psychology, working with vulnerable young people displaying challenging behaviour. Born and raised in Singapore, he was educated internationally in Singapore and UK boarding schools. He has a degree in Culture and a post-graduate diploma in Psychology from British universities. Sam has a love for all types of Asian food and, when his wife and daughter allow him, a good game of rugby.Enquire Now
What do you love about SBC?
I love seeing new courses added as the face of education in the modern world changes. But most of all, it’s seeing so many cultures and friendships that come together and grow out of each summer that is the best part. I have been with team SBC for the last 10 years and can’t wait to see what the future will bring!
If you were a student, what SBC subject would you choose to study this Summer?
Mathematics, it was always (and still is) my Achilles Heel.
What’s your top UK Summer travel tip?
Pack your suitcase with clothes for every kind of weather. The British summer can be 30 degrees and scorching one day and 15 degrees and raining the next. Oh, and make sure your phone has plenty of storage for pictures!
What’s your one piece of advice for students this year?
Embrace the experience. We understand studying away from home can be a bit of a challenge, but all the other students are in the same boat and we are here to support you throughout. The days really do rush by, and before you know it, it’ll be time to head home. Try and make the most of every opportunity!
