Our two-week Foundation in Business course immerses students in the essentials of business strategy, financial literacy, and organisational leadership. Course Objectives

Foundation in Business has been designed for students aged 12-16 who aspire to make a difference in the world of business. At Eton College, we recognise the importance of equipping young leaders with the business acumen, ethics, and confidence needed to thrive in a competitive global landscape. This course introduces core principles in business and leadership, preparing students to become resourceful, impactful future leaders.

Introduction to Business Fundamentals and Market Analysis

In this module, students explore key concepts in business and economics, including supply and demand, market trends, and the basics of financial literacy. Through practical exercises, they’ll learn to analyse market dynamics, identify potential business opportunities, and consider the impact of economic factors on business decisions. Case studies and discussions provide a comprehensive view of how businesses function in diverse markets and economic conditions.

Strategic Leadership and Ethical Decision-Making

This module focuses on the principles of leadership within a business context. Students will delve into different leadership styles, the role of ethics in decision-making, and the skills required to manage teams effectively. Through group activities and role-playing exercises, they’ll gain experience in conflict resolution, team motivation, and making choices that align with both profit and purpose. Real-world scenarios help students understand the importance of ethical leadership in building lasting business success.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

In the final module, students explore the world of entrepreneurship, from generating business ideas to developing value propositions and managing risk. They’ll learn the fundamentals of business planning, marketing strategy, and financial management, preparing them to design their own entrepreneurial projects. This module culminates in a hands-on project where students will work to create a business plan for a new product or service, gaining practical experience in turning ideas into actionable strategies.

Time to Shine

For their Time to Shine project, students will put their learning into practice by designing a business plan or innovative solution that addresses a specific market need or social issue. Whether it’s a sustainable business model, a new tech solution, or a community-centered initiative, students will present their ideas to a panel of peers and instructors in a culminating presentation.

Examples of past projects include:

EcoEnterprise: A Sustainable Business Model for Reducing Waste in Urban Areas – A project in which a student developed a business plan focused on sustainable practices and waste reduction, highlighting innovative approaches to balancing profit and purpose.

This project offered students the chance to showcase their understanding of business strategy, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial thinking, and to demonstrate their ability to think creatively, make strategic decisions, and present ideas confidently.
